Dr N Chandra Sekharan Nair, an eminent Hindi Scholar of 95 years, is the Founder and Chairman of Kerala Hindi Sahitya Academy (KHSA) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was the former Head of the Department of Hindi at Mahatma Gandhi College, Trivandrum. Dr Nair was Awarded D.Lit., major research fellow of U.G.C and Emeritus Professor of U.G.C.


Dr. N.C Nair was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam, Kerala on 27th June 1924 in a middle class family. Dr Nair, a strong Gandhian, took Hindi Propagation has his Dharma and his devotion to Gandhiji. Dr Nair for the last 75 years is propagating Hindi in a non-Hindi Speaking Southern State of India, Kerala as his mission for National Integration. Dr N C Nair established Kerala Hindi Sahitya Academy (KHSA) in 1982 to promote and protect national integrity through literary and cultural activities. For the last 34 years KHSA playing a proactive role in promoting Hindi language by organising Seminars, Workshops, bringing out Publications & periodical Magazine “Sodha Pathrika” undertaking high quality Research, honouring personalities in Hindi literature and research with Awards and Recognitions, training and capacity building of youth in bringing out good Hindi publications, setting up of a unique Hindi Library, etc. Over a period of time, Kerala Hindi Sathiya Academy created a congenial atmosphere for Hindi Literature in Kerala. KHSA who has been recognised by Central Hindi Directorate through Grants has honoured more than 170 Hindi writers, especially youth. Academy’s publications, especially periodical “Shodh Pathrika” is nationally and internationally renowned.


Dr Nair is also the founder of many students’ organisations like Gandhi Vigyan Bhawan and Bharat Yuvak Samaj in Ottapalam (Palakkad), Kerala to promote Gandhian way of life and his principles. He has chaired many national and regional Committees for Hindi Promotion. Dr. Nair has been nominated in Hindi Salakar Samitees of many Central Government Ministries as “Salahkar” (Advisor) to the Minister, Govt. of India.


Dr Nair is a renowned writer both in Hindi and Malayalam. He is renowned as a Poet, Novelist, Dramatist, Story writer, Research Scholar, A well-known artist in painting and critic in both art subject and literary field. Dr Nair has written more than 50 original books in Hindi. Many of his books have been selected as text books by the Indian Universities.  Gave “Preface” to many well-known works of noted writers. Dr Nair has published articles in more than 800 periodicals in India and abroad. Six Professors have obtained Ph.D. Degree on the works of Nair and his personalities. Dr Nair’s research papers have been published by KHSA, UGC, Central Hindi Directorate and many other magazines, nationally and regionally.


Dr N C Nair’s Biographical works are on eminent personalities in Kerala like Maharshi Vidyadhiraja Theerthapad, Dr K.P. Kesava Menon, Chithrakatha Samrat Raja Ravi Varma and Mannath Padmanabhan.


Dr Nair who is leading a Yogic life has many religious publications and works based on Upanishad, great epics like Adhyatma Ramayan, Chiranjeevi, Ram-Maruti Milan, Praises of Ram, Sree Lalitha Sahasranam Vyakhyaye, etc.
Dr N C Nair is also a renowned painter. He has drawn more than hundred paintings. A number of paintings of Dr. Nair have appeared in Indian Airlines magazines like Swagath.  Many of his paintings were exhibited at Trivandrum and New Delhi.  


Dr N Chandra Sekharan Nair received the prestigious “Vishva Hindi Samman” from Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh at the 10th Vishva Hindi Samelan hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India in Bhopal on September 12th, 2015. Recognizing his life time contribution for the propagation of Hindi all over the world, the Ministry of External Affairs – Government of India conferred the Vishva Hindi Samman to Dr Nair. Dr Nair was also honored and awarded in the third World Hindi Conference held in 1983 at New Delhi. 


In 2014, Dr Nair was awarded “Hindi Ratna Samman” by the Hindi Bhawan, New Delhi and “Desh Ratna” by Uttar Pradesh Government. He received the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s award for Hindi writers in non-Hindi speaking areas for 2004-05 and the 2008 Maharashtra Hindi Sahitya Academy award.  


Dr N C Nair has received several national and state awards. He has received “Abhinandan Grandhas” from prominent Indian personalities like Late Sri Narasimha Rao, Former Foreign Minister of Govt of India, His Excellency Mr Rachayya, Former Governor of Kerala, Sri Lal Krishana Advani, Former Minister for Communication, Govt of India and Award for Literary work from His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India.
